Anointing the Sick

“Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.” (James 5:14)

In the Church's Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, through the ministry of the Priest, it is Jesus who touches the sick to bring healing and strength to body and soul. The sacrament has the power to forgive sins when the one anointed is unable to confess. Sometimes it brings a restoration of physical health as well. When one falls seriously ill a Priest should be called to anoint them and pray over them calling on Christ to give them strength and healing.

The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness or an impending surgery is sufficient.

If you or a family member has a serious illness or is about to undergo a serious surgery please call Fr. Sanderson at the St. Stanislaus Parish office weekdays (402) 731-4152 or if you cannot reach Fr. Sanderson call Deacon Tom Schulte: (402) 669-1301 or Deacon Al Aulner: (402) 669-1714 who will arrange to find him or another priest.
